One of the most renowned trekking routes in the world, the Everest Base Camp Trek in Nepal takes visitors to the foothills of Mount Everest (8,848m), the highest mountain on Earth. This classic trek usually takes 12–16 days and covers around 130 kilometers, offering breathtaking views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and other Himalayan giants. The trail passes through traditional Sherpa villages, rhododendron forests, high-altitude passes, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site – Sagarmatha National Park, making it a journey of both natural beauty and cultural immersion.

The Everest trekking route begins from Lukla and gradually ascends through the Sherpa capital Namche Bazaar, the spiritual Tengboche Monastery, and alpine settlements like Dingboche and Lobuche before reaching the iconic Everest Base Camp (5,364m). Trekkers also experience dramatic landscapes, ranging from lush valleys of Solu-Khumbu to the glacier-filled region of Khumbu Icefall. The Sherpa people regard this sacred land as “Beyul” – a hidden sanctuary blessed by Guru Rinpoche, and their vibrant festivals such as Dumji (April) and Mani Rimdu (October/November) enrich the trekking experience.

For those seeking a more authentic journey, an alternative route via Jiri retraces the footsteps of early Everest expeditions. This classic trail crosses Lamjura La Pass, Taksindu La Pass, and picturesque villages like Shivalaya, Bhandar, and Salung, where the first glimpses of Everest appear. Along the way, trekkers encounter diverse flora and fauna, charming cheese factories established with Swiss aid, and dramatic ridges rising above 3,900m. Beyond 4,000m, vegetation becomes sparse, giving way to raw Himalayan wilderness.

The best time to trek Everest Base Camp is during spring (March–May) and autumn (October–November) when skies are clear, weather is stable, and panoramic mountain views are at their finest. Known locally as Sagarmatha in Nepali and Chomolungma in Tibetan, Mount Everest is more than just a mountain – it is a symbol of adventure, spirituality, and the ultimate dream for trekkers across the globe.

Embarking on the Everest Base Camp Trek is not just about reaching a destination; it is about embracing the journey through breathtaking landscapes, vibrant Sherpa culture, and the heart of the Himalayas.

“At the end of February 2015, I was traveling with Gelu Sherpa in a guided tour to Everest Base Camp Trek, it was all very well organized and Gelu was the perfect travel companion, very charming and funny, he has a great deal of knowledge about the area People, the mountains and culture and re... See more ligion. Our trekking was very good, except for a late winter break in the Khumbu Valley, where we were then snowed. The Porters and Sherpas did everything, the treks were cleared and we were able to get back to Namche Bazar. Unfortunately, we had to change the route due to the snow and then made the slightly lower trek from the airport Lukla to Jiri. A wonderful trekking tour, where you got to know original Nepal with its lovely people and their way of life very authentically. It was still two very strenuous snow-covered passes on the route that demanded everything from us. Overall, you can fully trust Gelu Sherpa and his organization, everything is well organized and I would plan with him again on my next trip to Nepal. See less...

See more ir begeistert von der professionellen Betreuung/ Begleitung. Herzlichst aus Hamburg Thomas & Ellen See less...
